Introduction – Yin Shi (GSoC 2025 Applicant)

Hello JdeRobot Community,

My name is Yin Shi, a final‑year B.Sc. Computing Science student.
I’ve submitted two GSoC 2025 proposals:

• Project 4: End‑to‑End Visual Control Exercise for Robotics‑Academy
• Project 10: DetectionMetrics – GUI, CI Workflow, and Object Detection Support

I’m in the middle of final exams this week, so my hands‑on time is limited.
Meanwhile, I’m reading the project documentation and idea pages to get oriented.

Could you suggest the best first steps for a newcomer?

• Which setup guide or repository should I focus on first?
• Are there beginner‑friendly issues where I could help after my exams end next week?

I’m comfortable with Python, ROS 2, and TensorFlow/PyTorch, and I enjoy writing clear documentation.
Any pointers or reading materials are greatly appreciated.

the GSoC candidate selection at JdeRobot is ongoing. No further is required on your side.

Beyond GSoC, as RoboticsAcademy and DetectionMetrics are open source projects you are more than welcome to fix issues/ create enhancements etc and create pull requests at any time. Just interact with the developers and users at the corresponding repo.

Regarding RoboticsAcademy, you can start contributing by using it, developing solutions to several of its exercises and providing feedback about them, always through the repo.
