In NeogitStatus how do I stage a single file in a directory with 2 untracked files.

I am new to neogit so maybe I am just missing an option or behavior.

Scenario 'data' contains 'main.config' and 'other.config'.

• data/ -- untracked currently
  • main.config -- untracked currently
  • other.config -- untracked currently

Launch Neogit to status and I see
v Untracked files (1)
> data/

If I press <tab> on that line it shows
v Untracked files (1)
v data/

It does not show untracked files inside the folder as I expected.
I've tried the Depth settings 1,2,3,4 but no affect on seeing files inside data
I've tried "OpenTree" on the data with no affect.

Alternative which I don't think is a great solution but doable.
If I stage the directory with "s" then all files are staged.
I can then go and unstage other.config

Now I see
v Untracked files (1)
> data/other.config

v Staged changes (1)
> new file data/main.config

What I find interesting is that Untracked now shows the untracked file with data/ which I like but doesn't help much with my current starting point.

Am I just missing an option or command here?

EDIT by me.
I believe I understand now why files inside the data folder due to a comment elsewhere about it just presenting data from git status. It's still against my expectations in neogit.
