What were your experiences in cost for running this server?

Are PDFs more expensive than plaintext? Does it convert to plaintext first?

Doesn't cost anything outside of what the MCP Client costs ($20 for Claude App). ArXiv API is free to use and that all this is using. PDFs are translated to Markdown prior to "reading". When searching the server leverages the abstracts returned by the API. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Ok thanks for clarifying.

I tested it, and it came out to about 12000-25000 tokens for a paper. I've decided to use haiku to summarize the papers, as I might go through quite a few papers over time
