MCP error connection closed

I am using cherry studio as my MCP client, and when adding arxiv-mcp-server it shows the error below

I figured out the problem, the uvx is conflicting with my system uvx, I just uninstall my system uvx and use the uvx provided by cherry, then it worked.

I found a way to make it work in Cherry Studio. You have to install it from https://iod.ai per suggestion in #7 .

Remember to change the "{local_cloned_repository_path}" to your own path, for me on Mac OS it's /Users/username/.iod/arxiv-mcp-server. You can also change the --storage-path if you want.

Then it should work like a charm

@RoacherM Thank you very much! I have successfully started the mcp in cherry studio following your instruction.
The key is to clone the git repo, and should use /Users/xxx/xxx instead of ~/xxx when specify --directory.

With uv I had issues using the uvx command as well. That's why I had changed the README to use uv tool install and uv tool run instead. The only downside is that you need to run uv tool update when you want to upgrade to a new version.

Hey there, I was mentioned here so let me give my 2 cents.
If you have issues with paths including finding the python executable finding uv executable or uvx executable this is because an stdio mcp servers are started as subprocess without env variables by default. In particular it's usually missing the PATH variable which is essential for finding executables.
2 solutions:

1. provide the PATH as an env variable in your mcp config among other env variable you provide. You can do echo $PATH in your terminal and copy paste into your mcp config env variables.
2. use only absolute paths to everything in your mcp config for every commands and other paths meaning uv -> /usr/local/bin/uv . You can find full path of command by running which in your regular terminal.
