🔍 Bug Summary

Document Type Classification Determine not working

📖 Description

The Document Type Classification feature displays Document Type Distribution statistics in Paperless AI version 2.7.1, but does not actually apply the classified types to the documents themselves. This behavior occurs regardless of whether the feature is activated or not.

🔄 Steps to Reproduce

Enable "Document Type Classification: Determine the type of document automatically"

✅ Expected Behavior

The Document Type Classification feature should correctly classify documents according to their types when the feature is enabled.

❌ Actual Behavior

The feature does not perform any classification to the documents regardless of its enabled/disabled status.

📌 Extra Notes

  • Paperless AI 2.7.1
  • It might be beneficial to implement a functionality similar to the Tags feature, where users can specify which document types should be used or allowed for classification.

If there is a chart and has data in it - there are classified documents. If the classification would not work, there would be no populated chart.

Is it intentional that only this chart with the document type is displayed, but the document types are not adopted in Paperless NGX?

The documents are classified in paperless-ngx, The chart gets the data FROM paperless-ngx. So they have to be there.

I have now checked the document types again and found that Paperless AI uses document types that are not set up in Paperless NGX. For the corresponding documents in Paperless NGX, the document type field remains empty. For my manually created document types in Paperless NGX, "0 number of documents" is displayed for all of them. Nevertheless, Paperless AI displays the distribution of document types with document types that don't exist in Paperless.
I have also already restarted both programs to make sure that it is not a display error.
