To avoid board capture and ensure the foundation's overall healthiness, I propose a policy limiting director affiliations to no more than two members.
I'm somewhat mirroring how the PSF does it with two new sections. The first establishes what an affiliation is, and the second limits affiliations. I played with putting these into one section, and I waffled on the best format. (See sections 5.14 and 5.15 of the PSF's bylaws for inspiration https://www.python.org/psf/bylaws/)
Limits on Co-affiliated Board Members
With a seven-director board, two directors would make up 28% of the Board, and three directors would make up 42%, which is too much. We can scale the Board up to allow more directors (a discussion we should have later). After serving on a much larger PSF board for five years, where two to three directors shared affiliates were the norm, it's in the foundation's best interest to limit it to two.
