Question/Date picker accessibility

I am using this component in my application. My colleague has 100% visual impairment and uses assertive technologies (screen reader). Is there a way to enable accessibility?

Currently, navigating to the tab key and pressing enter or space does not open the date picker. Also, I have a screen reader for testing, the navigation is just not reasonable.

Is there accessibility support without having to modify the date picker source code?
