Can Redis/Valkey be ephemeral?

Evening,

I'm looking at moving from a local install to the dockerized version, but I'm curious as to whether there's a need for Redis/Valkey to be persistent or not?

If there is, cool... but if it's not required and it's just an inconvenience like things might be a little slower while it re-caches or people get logged out when it bounces without persistence, then I'm ok with that...
