How do I ensure code blocks, visualisation and tables render within boundaries and margins?

Hello

I'm running Quarto version 1.6.40 on macOS 15.3.2 (24D81). I'm preparing my Quarto document in VS Code but I encountered this problem running the same version on the same device in RStudio. Both times the issue was encountered after rendering the PDF.

Primary question: how do I ensure code blocks render in the confines of the grey box?

Secondary; how do I ensure renderings such as visualisations and tables render within page margins?

For reference, I suspect it's something to do with the YAML I've used so I'll include an excerpt from the YAML header below. This component was copied from the previous qmd file that was made in RStudio into my current VS Code qmd document.

1. Search previous discussions about code overflow and line wrapping
2. Search online for LaTeX solutions. It is very likely that the solution is for you to either change the orientation of the page or change the font size of the table. The his is really a LaTeX question.

This question comes up often, though. I do wonder if we should have a Quarto-specific solution.

But this does not change the issue about tables being too large.
I don't see what Quarto as decreasing font size could reasonably do to ensure the table fits is clearly a very terrible idea. So, handling that the content fits is the responsibility of the user. This would also happen in Microsoft Word.

I couldn’t create a single landscape page in LaTeX—likely due to conflicts in my YAML header packages. I tried both lscape and pdflscape, but neither worked.

Switching LaTeX engines (pdflatex and xelatex) also didn’t help. However, I was able to make the entire document landscape using the geometry package.

That said, some tables still rendered wider than the page. This might be due to too many features in my dataset. I plan to explore line wrapping in the table header and reducing font size as possible solutions.

I should add that using landscape orientation did resolve the issue of code blocks extending beyond the grey container box. However, I’m not sure if this is a permanent solution, so I’ll continue exploring line wrapping options for that scenario.

Note that, the more LateX code you add the less it becomes compatible with Quarto multi-formats.
It also increases the likelihood of conflicts with Pandoc/Quarto default template.

I also don't understand why you needed all those customisation, especially using header-includes as most are already in Quarto and natively. For instance, the definition of margins: https://quarto.org/docs/output-formats/pdf-basics.html#output-options
