How do I generate two identical graphs from one code cell?

Description

I know that, in the following R code chunk, two identical graphs are generated:

#| fig-cap: "Playing with breaks"
#| layout-ncol: 2
#| fig-subcap:
#|   - "no breaks"
#|   - "Scott"


hist(cars$speed) 
hist(cars$speed, breaks = "Scott")

For demonstration purposes I would like my documento to display both pictures but only one shows.

Is there any setting to change this?

I can reproduce with knitr 1.50 and rmarkdown so the issue lies in knitr or one of its dependencies.
Only one figure is emitted/recorded.

It seems to be an issue with knitr or rather evaluate during its rewrite with v1.

To be handled there.

No result by default for the second plot. So fig.keep = 'all' keeps them all, but there is only one. I need to look into that
