How to check for children of an entry?

I have a collection say color

Color
  - Child entry 1
     - Grandchild entry 11
     - Grandchild entry 12
  - Child entry 2
     - Grandchild entry 23
     - Grandchild entry 24

In the show.antlers, why do the if (sample non working code below) or count not work?

    {{ if children }}
        {{ children }}
            {{ url }}
        {{ /children }}
    {{ else }}
        {{ title }}
    {{ /if }}

I haven't tested it, but can you try this instead:

- {{ if children }}
+ {{ if {children} }}
