Hi

When trying to update to latest version (5.52.0) of Statamic, I see this message

Dependency laravel/framework is also a root requirement. Package has not been listed as an update argument, so keeping locked at old version. Use --with-all-dependencies (-W) to include root dependencies.

I tried it on a fresh install and the same message appears? In the same install, I tried downgrading to 5.51.0, then updating to 5.52.0, message persists?

composer update -W runs without the message showing.

Wonder why statamic update option 0 triggers the message?

In a clean install of Statamic, I would expect there would be no dependencies issues

That message is expected.

tl;dr: It's just a warning. This is the Statamic updater. It lets you update Statamic. There are options to update more than just Statamic.

When you run composer update some/package --with-dependencies, it will update that package plus any of its dependencies.

laravel/framework is a dependency of statamic/cms, so it will "try" to update it. But, if you have something explicitly required in your composer.json, Composer won't update it unless you tell it to. A fresh Statamic/Laravel site will have laravel/framework in the composer.json, so that's why you get that message.

The second option, composer update, will update everything in your composer.json, which includes both statamic/cms and laravel/framework.

The command suggested in the warning, --with-all-dependencies, will basically do what --with-dependencies (option 1) does, but also update anything you have explicitly defined in your composer.json.
