Linking to items in doc comment is not possible because brackets containing backticks are escaped #1242

This is reopen of the first part of #850.

The goal was to not escape brackets when containing backticks or followed by parenthesis.

However the issue was fixed only for the 'followed by parenthesis' and I can't find any explanation for this in #851.

Same problem goes for footnotes
