Journal Import

Importing journal data is an important step to making sure you get accurate predictions no matter where you go or when you play.

Because EDMC does not permanently store data parsed from the journals, BioScan uses ExploData to maintain a persistent database and allow for importing historic journal files.

Not only will this allow you to see predictions for systems you've visited in the past, but it will also log any codex entries you've earned. This will provide more accurate indicators of undiscovered bios in the prediction list.

Initiating the Import

Starting the import is as simple as opening the EDMC settings pane, selecting the BioScan tab, and clicking the 'Start/Stop Journal Import' at the bottom left of the window. This is shared with Pioneer and the status of the import will display at the bottom of the BioScan display in the main EDMC window.

While live journal processing may slow down a bit while the import is running, you can continue to play while it processes. For users with many years worth of data, it can take some time. However, you can still close and reopen EDMC during this process. It will resume from the oldest journal file that has not yet been imported, though you do need to manually resume the import when EDMC is restarted.

Database Updates

Some updates to ExploData may add additional information or restructure the saved data slightly. In these cases I will generally warn that a journal import is recommended and the journal tracker will be reset so that the process can be restarted completely.
